Artist Statement | Hedy Hempe

During my whole life I need to express my ideas, thoughts and feelings about nature, science and society through shapes, words and music by discovering, using and developing a certain language and handwriting. I am interested in the thinking, doing and playful human; I need to reinvent the wheel in order to understand the connection between nature, culture and science. My art is about vizualizing the existence, meaning and developing of these components in our society. I do not use one technique and medium, but my eggshell panels play a symbolic role in my art.

As a visual artist I use drawing, printing, photography, collage, land-art and recently sculpting and performance. I love to work in nature with natural materials, it inspires my to find new structures and constructions for 3D-artwork and objects. My artworks are the result of working with and thinking about natural laws, math and society. I have discovered that perception is based on personal observation. The impressionist idea is the only way for me to understand the existence of life and death; everything is a transition from one moment into another. It is the time-space where intellectual perception and emotional experience come together. Only art can make that tangible.
