MeetUs: Visual Storytelling with Anneke Sools

Anneke Sools’ research at the University of Twente aims to demonstrate that you can tell stories through art and thus spark the imagination. In her current project she investigates how we can use these pandemic times as an opportunity to better shape our future. In collaboration with artists, she depicts different moral dilemmas to make people look at the future differently and discover possibilities and solutions. Through visual storytelling she invites people to tell their story. Not to get into a debate but to share experiences and images and to enter into a dialogue.

During the MeetUs Masterclass she will tell us all about her research and challenge us to think about imagination in art.

Bio Anneke Sools
Anneke Sools (PhD) is Assistant Professor at the department of Psychology, Health and Technology at the University of Twente. She is also Program Director of the Storylab (Dutch expert centre in the area of narrative psychology, health, and technology connected to the University of Twente).
Anneke received her PhD at the University for Humanistic Studies in Utrecht, and received a MA Degree in Psychology of Culture and Religion from the University of Nijmegen. Her research is driven by a passion for exploring how future stories can support and stretch the human horizon of possibility and well-bein. In the area of future stories and art-based future imagination she collaborates in multiple national and European research projects with colleagues from Crete, the UK, Germany, and Israel.

MeetUs is the monthly meeting place for artists, creative professionals and other interested parties from Enschede and the surrounding area. Inspire and be inspired by guest speakers and the other participants. MeetUs is organized by KunstNonStop in collaboration with Concordia and is partly realized thanks to financial support from the municipality of Enschede.

Anneke Sools wil met haar onderzoek aan de Universiteit Twente aantonen dat je via kunst verhalen kunt vertellen en zo de verbeelding kunt prikkelen. In haar huidige project onderzoekt ze hoe we de coronatijd kunnen gebruiken als kans om onze toekomst beter vorm te geven. In samenwerking met kunstenaars beeldt ze verschillende morele dilemma’s uit om mensen anders naar de toekomst te laten kijken en mogelijkheden en oplossingen te zien. Via visuele storytelling nodigt zij mensen uit om hun verhaal te vertellen. Om zo niet in debat te gaan maar ervaringen en beelden te delen en de dialoog aan te gaan.

Tijdens de MeetUs Masterclass vertelt ze alles over haar onderzoeken en daagt ze ons uit na te denken over de verbeelding in onze kunst.
