IN BETWEEN SILENCE – Saheed Wahab
In “In between silence”, Saheed Wahab explores how the male body becomes a site of quiet resilience and introspection, through drawing and painting, he examines solitude, vulnerability and subtle gestures that reveal emotional depth with stillness.
Developed during his residency at Artist Residencies Enschede (ARE), this body of work reflects an encounter between self and environment, the calm rhythm of Enschede has filtered into Wahab’s process slowing down his gestures and allowing silence to shape his visual language. The result is a series of works that balance the physicality of mark making with the fragility of the human condition.
Rendered in charcoal, acrylics and subdued tonality of oil colors, Wahab’s figures inhabit open, ambiguous spaces that echo both distance and connection. They invite the viewer to dwell in the quiet tension between presence and absence, between what is seen, felt and withheld.
About Saheed Wahab:
Saheed Wahab born in Lagos Nigeria, is a visual artist whose practice navigates the intersections of solitude, masculinity, and the spiritual dimensions of everyday life. Working between painting and drawing, his figures balance gesture and restraint, exploring how vulnerability can inhabit silence.
He studied Painting at Yaba College of Technology Lagos, where he earned both a National and Higher National Diploma in 2019. Wahab has exhibited internationally, including a solo presentation at Unit London, Nanzuka Gallery in Japan. He is currently an artist in residence at Artist Residencies Enschede (ARE), Netherlands, where his work continues to evolve around questions of belonging, displacement, and the emotional architecture of the body.
