FEMXLE FRONTIER EXHIBITION
Femxle Frontier advocates for women and genderqueer individuals in the music industry. By bringing four female artists together in this exhibition we hope to extend that same mission in the world of design and visual arts. In this collective exhibition the artists explore themes of femininity, vulnerability, and identity.
Their works burst with bold colors, striking forms and powerful words — demanding attention and standing strong as a unified statement. Each piece is a vibrant expression with an underlying deeper and serious narrative.
ARTISTS
Nefeli Stavrou
Through landscape-like imagery of her back, in the work ‘embrace’ Stavrou transforms the weight of wearing a medical back brace during puberty into a vibrant explosion of color. Rooted in the reality that females are more likely to develop scoliosis, this poster series explores the relationship between the female body and the brace.
Stavrou is a Dutch-Cypriot designer, that works with intuitive minimalistic rules, which she also breaks to create more playful graphic work. She often explores personal themes of experiences and identity while materializing them into light-hearted zines or prints which give her emotions space to live.
Emma Pluijgers
Pluijgers´ works are bright, happy - even a little naive. Until you notice what shines through. Does that say what you think it says? Painfully relatable or shockingly taboo, you get to decide how to interpret the works. In the artist´s latest paintings, she plays around with colorful grids. Testing the boundaries of fine art, design, and femininity in art. By presenting her many paintings as an installation, Pluijgers wants to immerse the audience in a space without judgement. Topics she likes to include in her paintings are sex, drugs, childhood toys, looking cute and how wonderful it is to be a girlie girl.
Nadine klok
The work of Nadine Klok mainly revolves around human connections to themselves, others, and the world around them. She creates through experimentation within different mediums, preferably analogue techniques. Exploring is an important part of her process; to be inspired by encountering other people and ideas, and through always trying new things. She hopes to invite others to take an exploring path as well and introduce new perspectives to herself and her audience.
The piece you see in this exhibition revolves around these perspectives as well. All the recreated frames are a representation of how people can look at the same thing but see it in their own perspectives; based on their individual values, memories, and persuasions.
Emma Schuster
Schuster her work explores themes of vulnerability, intimacy, and the often overlooked. Through sculpture, installation, and video. She investigates how materials and spaces can evoke emotion or reveal hidden structures. Her practice moves between the personal and the collective, the tangible and the elusive.
